Day 1: Auckland arrival and travel to lake Taupo

Your Vivid Guide will be on-hand to meet you from an agreed meeting point in Auckland.

Once aboard your luxury minivan we'll head south some 90 minutes to the outskirts of Hamilton to Zealong Tea Estate. We'll spend a leisurely couple of hours over lunch before heading south again to our destination for the night, Taupō.

We'll head directly to your accommodation, the 5-star Hilton Lake Taupō where you'll be able to rest and relax after a big day of travel.

Day 2: Golf at Wairakei

Today you will play golf at Wairakei Golf & Sanctuary.

Located just north of Taupō in New Zealand’s central North Island, Wairakei is a pioneering golf destination that uniquely combines championship golf with native wildlife conservation. And very much a favourite with the Vivid Golf team.

Cap off your experience with a well-earned drink at the clubhouse and a browse through the well-appointed on-site gift shop. No visit to Wairakei is complete without a little something to remember it by.

Huka Falls:

After your round we'll cross the road to Huka Falls where you will feel the raw power of nature; over 220,000 litres of water per second surge through a narrow volcanic canyon before plunging into a foaming turquoise pool. Just minutes from Taupō, it’s an easy stop with walking trails, viewing platforms, and jet boat rides that bring you thrillingly close to the spray.

  • The 18-hole par 72 course offers a classic parkland layout with gently rolling fairways, mature trees, and volcanic soil that ensures excellent drainage and year-round playability.
  • Unique geothermal features, including a steaming fumerole near the 15th hole, add a distinctive Taupō touch to the golfing experience.
  • The course is known for its strategic bunkering, well-guarded greens, and a layout that caters to both casual golfers and seasoned players.
  • The final hole is considered one of the most memorable finishing holes in New Zealand golf.

Day 4: Taupō Leisure Day

Taupō offers a vibrant mix of adventure and relaxation—jet boat to the base of Huka Falls, soak in geothermal hot pools, or try trout fishing on Lake Taupō. For thrill-seekers, skydiving over the lake delivers unforgettable views, while nearby walking and biking trails showcase the region’s volcanic beauty.

Taupō has something for every traveller. Later in the day we head north, a short 60-minute drive to our accommodation for the next three nights, Pullman Rotorua.

Overnight: Pullman Rotorua

Day 5: Rotorua Golf: Lakeview or Arikikapakapa (Rotorua GC)

Depending on availability, we will play one of two local gems: the historic Arikikapakapa Rotorua Golf Club, known for its geothermal features, or the scenic Lakeview Golf Club with panoramic views over Lake Rotorua.

These are both well-supported members clubs so you will blend in with the locals out enjoying their own course.

Enjoy a relaxed evening in town checking out Eat Street or soaking golf-weary bodies in the world famous mineral spa's the town offers.

Day 6: Golf at Whakatāne

Located in the heart of the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Whakatāne Golf Club offers a scenic and welcoming coastal golf experience that blends relaxed playability with subtle challenge. A favourite among locals and a hidden gem for touring golfers, it’s a must-stop for those exploring the North Island’s eastern edge.

It's an easy 60-minute drive from our base in Rotorua with a scenic drive alongside the stunning Rotorua Lakes (Rotorua, Rotoiti, Rotoehu, and Rotoma).

Day 7: Rotorua Leisure Day

Take a break from golf and explore Rotorua’s cultural and geothermal wonders. Visit Te Puia, experience Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa, or enjoy a forest walk through the Redwoods.

At days end we'll travel over the Kaimai Ranges into the heartland Waikato Town of Cambridge where our luxury accommodation The Clements Hotel awaits, a boutique retreat in the heart of town.

Overnight: The Clements Hotel

Day 8: Tieke Golf Estate

Wrap up your North Island golf adventure with a round at Tieke Golf Estate. Crafted from the original bed of the Waikato River that still borders the course; you'll hardly recognise the tranquil flow of the river from the thundering Huka Falls a few days earlier.

Tīeke Golf Estate is a modern masterpiece blending links-style golf with a secluded valley feel. Since opening in 2021, it’s quickly earned a spot among New Zealand’s top courses.

After your round, relax at the clubhouse’s excellent restaurant with a well-earned drink or bite to eat. From the terrace, enjoy views of the 18th green and watch fellow golfers finish their rounds in this stunning setting—a perfect way to finish the week.
